Online Learning.
This project began on 30th April 2020.
With 13,000 images and 1,500 videos stored on my phone, I was notified that I had run out of storage space. I had to make a decision on what to delete. I couldn't decide what to delete.
Why had I taken them in the first place? My attitude to photography for the last 5 years, has been that 'proper images' should be taken on a 'proper camera' and I had 7000 of those stored in my Lightroom.
I asked myself:
-
why did you take this image?
-
why did you frame it in this way?
-
why can't you delete it?
This collection of images, comprised of screenshots, photographs, memes, lists and text, are notes to myself. I didn't share these images on social media and most of them had never been sent to anyone. To delete an image felt like deleting a memory.
I have dedicated a month to looking at the 829 files created in the first four months of 2020 to better understand them and to better understand myself.
All images and audio (taken from Whatsapp) were created between Jan 1st and April 30th, up until the very moment I decided to curate this project.
This is the result.
This is my self-portrait.
If you are interested, then welcome.
ps - I now have 13,529 images as I decided to delete some apps instead.
